Cloud Connectivity Optics & Cabling in the UAE
Build the physical connection between your infrastructure and your cloud network.
Source SFP and QSFP optical modules, single-mode fibre patch leads and data centre cabling for cloud connectivity projects in Dubai and across the UAE. Match your router or switch to the exact provider handoff with a clear hardware specification and project quote.
Start with the handoff. Specify the complete link.
Cloud connectivity depends on more than an optical module. Your hardware, cross-connect, transport service and cloud configuration must work together.
Physical interface
Confirm speed, optical standard, connector, fibre and port settings at the point where your responsibility begins.
Platform compatibility
Match the selected optic to the exact router, switch or firewall model, software release and supported port mode.
Service requirements
Align hardware with the provider order, contracted bandwidth, resilience design and planned activation date.

Colocation cross-connects
Specify the optical interface between your equipment and the facility or provider termination point. Confirm patch-panel locations, connector types and cross-connect responsibilities before ordering cabling.
Hybrid cloud access
Connect enterprise infrastructure to the agreed carrier or cloud handoff. Select optics around the local physical link, while the service provider defines the onward transport.
Multicloud network edges
Document each cloud-facing interface separately. Different services can require different port speeds, optics and logical configurations even when they share a colocation facility.
Backup & replication paths
Plan connectivity around the required transfer window, data volume and recovery objectives. Assess the full path, including storage and security devices, before choosing a port upgrade.
Private data centre links
For links between your own sites or racks, select reach and fibre around the installed channel. Longer routes may need a transport service or an engineered optical design.
Capacity upgrades
Review host ports, cabling and contracted service bandwidth together. Replacing a module with a higher-speed model does not automatically upgrade the circuit or the host.
For SFP transceivers in Dubai, QSFP optical modules in the UAE or a cloud edge cabling BOQ, send GBICS the provider specification and equipment details. Request an itemised hardware quote with compatible options and confirmed availability.
Understand the service boundary
AWS, Azure and Google Cloud handoff planning
AWS Direct Connect
AWS documents dedicated single-mode interfaces at 1G LX, 10G LR, 100G LR4 and 400G LR4. Confirm the actual ordered port and current requirements. Hosted services may present a different provider-facing arrangement to your equipment.
Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute
ExpressRoute supports provider and colocation connectivity models as well as ExpressRoute Direct. The selected model determines who operates the physical handoff. Obtain the interface specification from the party delivering it.
Google Cloud Interconnect
Dedicated Interconnect and Partner Interconnect have different delivery models. Confirm whether your equipment connects directly at a supported facility or through a partner, then obtain the exact customer-side optical requirements.
These service names identify design contexts, not GBICS partnership or circuit-provisioning claims. This page covers hardware sourcing. Order cloud services, carrier transport and facility cross-connects through the responsible providers.

Cloud edge optical modules: technical comparison
Use these representative interfaces to interpret a handoff specification. The table includes a private-link FR4 example to distinguish it from LR4 cloud handoffs. It is not a provider approval matrix or a GBICS stock list.
| Form factor / standard | Data rate | Maximum listed reach | Fibre | Wavelength | Connector | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SFP / LX or LX-LH implementation | 1G | 5 km LX; 10 km on specified LX/LH products¹ | SMF | 1310 nm | Duplex LC | Verify precise module and 1G handoff |
| SFP+ / 10GBASE-LR | 10G | 10 km | SMF | 1310 nm | Duplex LC | Host support and matching LR handoff |
| QSFP28 / 100GBASE-LR4 | 100G | 10 km | SMF | 4 LAN-WDM channels near 1310 nm | Duplex LC | Host, FEC settings and matching LR4 handoff |
| QSFP-DD / 400GBASE-FR4 | 400G | 2 km | SMF | 1270 / 1290 / 1310 / 1330 nm | Duplex LC | Private links only where FR4 is specified; not an LR4 substitute |
¹ IEEE 1000BASE-LX single-mode reach and extended LX/LH product specifications differ. Use the selected product datasheet and provider acceptance requirements. SMF = single-mode fibre. Wavelength values are nominal; connector polish and channel loss must also be checked.
For 400G cloud handoffs, require the precise standard
400G FR4, DR4 and LR-family interfaces are not interchangeable simply because they have the same aggregate rate. Confirm the named optical standard, supported module and provider requirements, including FEC. Do not substitute a shorter-reach or different-lane optical interface without approval.
Check optical power in both directions
Review transmit power, receiver sensitivity, receiver overload and the complete channel loss. A longer-reach optic is not automatically suitable for a short cross-connect. Include connector and splice losses, and use attenuation only where the engineered link and product requirements call for it.
Physical port rate and purchased capacity are different
This illustrative chart compares three service scenarios on the same 10 Gb/s physical handoff. It shows why the optic's speed is not a promise of contracted cloud bandwidth.
Compatibility checks before you order
Host and coding
Provide the device model, line card, port identifier and software release. OEM coding helps the host identify a module; it does not establish universal compatibility or provider acceptance.
Fibre and connectors
Confirm OS2 or other required fibre specification, length, LC or MPO interface, polish and polarity. MPO/MTP cabling belongs only where the selected optical standard calls for it.
Port and service settings
Obtain required speed, autonegotiation and FEC settings. Separately confirm VLAN, MTU, routing and any BGP parameters with the team delivering the cloud service.
Build resilience across distinct failure points
Assess equipment, power, patching, carrier routes and facility dependencies. Two ports on the same device or two fibres in the same physical route may share a failure risk. Follow the chosen provider's resiliency requirements and test the intended failover behaviour.
Private connectivity does not automatically provide encryption. Confirm security requirements separately and use a supported encryption design where needed.
Prepare a clear cloud connectivity BOQ
- Collect the handoff specification. Include provider, service model, location, physical port speed and optical interface.
- Identify your equipment. List router, firewall or switch models, ports, software and approved module requirements.
- Document the channel. Record fibre type, route distance, connector details and patching responsibilities.
- Define quantities and spares. Include primary and secondary links, patch leads and approved replacement modules.
- Align delivery and activation. Separate hardware dispatch, cross-connect completion and service activation milestones.
- Agree acceptance checks. Validate link state, optical diagnostics where supported, error counters, contracted capacity and failover with the responsible teams.
Hardware procurement for cloud projects in the UAE
Ask GBICS to confirm part numbers, compatibility assumptions, quantities, stock and warranty terms for your cloud edge deployment. Include your delivery location in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or elsewhere in the UAE and the required installation date.
GBICS advertises UAE stock, same-day dispatch and lifetime warranty. Confirm the applicable terms and dispatch cutoff for each quoted item; shipment arrival and cloud circuit activation are separate milestones.

What does GBICS provide for cloud connectivity?
GBICS helps source the optical modules and cabling that connect your equipment to a specified network handoff. Send your router or switch details and provider specification for a hardware quote. Cloud circuits, carrier transport and colocation cross-connect orders are separate service requirements.
Which optics do I need for AWS Direct Connect?
For dedicated connections, AWS documents single-mode 1000BASE-LX for 1G, 10GBASE-LR for 10G, 100GBASE-LR4 for 100G and 400GBASE-LR4 for 400G. Confirm the ordered port, location and current AWS requirements. A hosted connection can have a different customer-facing provider handoff.
Can I use the same transceiver for every cloud provider?
No. Optical standards, port speeds and handoff models vary. Confirm the provider order, physical interface and host compatibility before choosing a module. Matching speed alone is insufficient.
Does a 100G physical port mean I have 100G of cloud bandwidth?
Not necessarily. A service can have a lower committed capacity than its physical port rate. Check the contracted bandwidth and the throughput supported by the router, firewall, carrier path and cloud configuration.
Is a private cloud connection automatically encrypted?
No. Private connectivity and encryption are different properties. Confirm encryption requirements separately and select a supported option such as IPsec or MACsec where the service and equipment support it.
Does a 10 km optic connect directly to a cloud region 10 km away?
The reach rating applies to the optical channel terminated by that module. It does not describe the complete routed path to a cloud region. A local cross-connect or carrier handoff may terminate well before the destination cloud network.
Can I reuse existing fibre for a cloud handoff?
Only after confirming fibre type, connector format and polish, polarity, length, patching loss and the selected optical standard. Provider-facing LR interfaces commonly use single-mode fibre; multimode SR components cannot simply replace them.
How can I request a cloud connectivity hardware quote?
Email store@gbics.ae with the provider handoff specification, equipment models, software versions, port speed, fibre route details, quantities and delivery location. Attach a BOQ or port map and request confirmation of compatibility, availability and warranty terms.
